  • Severe back pain following violent trauma (such as a fall from a height or a road accident).
  • Constant, non-mechanical pain that is not influenced by movement or rest.
  • Severe chest or abdominal pain associated with your back pain.
  • Night pain not relieved by changing position.
  • Unexplained weight loss, often associated with chills and fever.
  • Sensory impairment of the perineal region (called saddle anesthesia)
  • Urinary incontinence of recent appearance.
